Downloathable Content #001

When Top Gear USA first aired on the History Channel, there was a lot of observation that the hosts just didn’t have the same rapport or sense of humor as the hosts from the U.K. Not many thought it would last long and simply gave up all interest rather soon. However, many others observed that even Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond didn’t have as much a kinship when they first started, and especially lacked it when James May came on board. It took several seasons before they were able to really get along together and become the lovable trio we know and love today.

Which brings me to the first official episode of Downloathable Content.

I’d like to add this to the number of reasons I refer to myself as a professional amateur. The quality here is all over the place, both in the audio recording and edits as well as the discussion itself. Of course, I could be viewing it from too critical of an eye, but I’ve spent enough time around the Internet to know what sort of savages hang around this burg.

What I think I’ll focus on this time, aside from the actual discussion sounding as if it were recorded over Xbox Live headsets, is how awkward the start is. In truth, I’m not really sure how to start this podcast. I just know I don’t want to record a podcast that segments everything into what we’ve played, what’s the news and what is the main topic. There are a ton of podcasts that do that. I just want to create one where a bunch of guys have an interesting conversation, one that people will want to chime in with their own thoughts on. I feel that eventually we get into a groove, and you can definitely tell when we’ve stopped thinking of things as “recording a podcast” and just started having a discourse.

I just need to figure out how we can grab that from the get go and I’ll be satisfied with the actual content.
