Eh! Steve! Let’s discuss Darksiders 3
Today is a very different episode as I converse with my friend Nolan about the game Darksiders 3. I feel a bit bad as I did an awful lot of monologuing this episode, though that’s sort of just how I am. This was, I think, enough of a success that I think I’d like to try to have Nolan on again with both Steven and I in the future, as the banter between all three of us would likely make for an enjoyable episode.
We touched on a lot of different topics this episode, but there still seems to be so much we hadn’t discussed in my mind. The pacing of upgrades, how objects and collectibles were hidden throughout, how leveling up was handled in comparison to other games of its ilk, and so on. I suppose that’s inevitable, as this podcast is as much a comparison to games like Bloodborne, which we’d been playing co-op for a while now. Darksiders 3 really is a fascinating collection of genres – ones that I think work particularly well together – but most “Soulsborne” games come with far more obvious influence and imitation. It certainly begs the question of genre definition when game mechanics can be blended together so easily.
We may get together for a Bloodborne specific podcast, though nothing is currently set in stone. For now, enjoy our conversation on Darksiders 3.
