Eh! Steve! Mid-Year Review 2020
Steve and I have finally been able to reconvene in person to record. Not only did it feel so much better to converse face to face, but it also felt positive to listen to the episode again. When we’re in the same room together, there’s just a far better dynamic to the discussion. However, it certainly came with its own cost. Steve and I are prone to leaning back, then forward, then back, and I’m curious if his microphone also had some automatic adjustments going on. As such, I had to go through and amplify our volume at times. I will be seeing if there’s anything we can do to create a more consistent level of volume.
There was also some poor timing regarding our criticism of Xbox Live and comparisons to Sony’s PlayStation Network. There have certainly been bad outages since the infamous 2011 hack, but from our perspective nothing as consistent as the troubles we ran into on Xbox One. Nonetheless, it seems that various users have been reporting digital purchases vanishing from their transaction history, meaning any attempts to download a game you’ve spent money on will result in problems. It is occurring on all devices that had ties to PlayStation Network, including PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. This is a rather bad look for the company and they’ve still not made any public statements on the matter.
Microsoft may fail more consistently than Sony in this regard, but when Sony screws up, they screw up big.
