In the Works for 2013
I wasn’t planning on writing this until my 2012 retrospective was up, but life tends to throw curveballs at you and next thing you know you’re looking at having a retrospective up sometime in February.
This is not a definitive “here are things I will definitely be doing” list, as I am notoriously horrible at seeing such things through. However, a lot of these things are already in the works so you can expect to see something of it in the future.
So, what to expect from GamerTagged.net in 2013.
REVIEWS
The only game from 2012 left for me to discuss in written form is Telltale’s The Walking Dead, which is coming along nicely. Otherwise, I might write something up on New Super Mario Bros. 2, but there’s not really much to say on that. I did play through Halo 4 and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, but I will not be writing about them due to one of my new plans below.
I didn’t realize it, but I managed to catch up to most of the games I completed in 2012 and already posted something about them. This is possibly the most caught-up I’ve ever been on the blog since I’ve been employed.
Not to worry, though. As you can see to the right I have plenty of games to keep me busy while I’m not working on other projects.
THEMES
A friend of mine has a tradition of playing through the Suikoden series every February. It’s an interesting annual commitment that allows him to return to one of his favorite franchises and enjoy each game.
I’m going to try something similar this year. I don’t get to play a lot of Indie games, so in honor of the strong Indie presence at PAX East I’m going to be dedicating the month of March to the smaller titles of the industry. I already have a backlog of games such as Outland and Penny Arcade Episode 3, plus games I missed that I’d like to play such as Journey and Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. As Indie games are typically shorter I’ll likely have more content than usual coming in that month.
At least, that’s the hope.
In addition, October will simultaneously see the return of Rocktober in a replay of Brutal Legend as well as a celebration of horror games. I’ll pick up Costume Quest for the first time and play through some new horror such as Fatal Frame II, and if there’s time take a trip down memory lane with the Resident Evil GameCube remake.
I hope to gain content from each of these. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if replaying old games allows me to notice new things that I hadn’t seen before and thus generate new articles as opposed to my typical review style write-up.
DOWNLOATHABLE CONTENT PODCAST
I will not be recording this weekly, as it takes a lot of time to edit. I will continue to make the episodes, however, as it allows me to get together with some friends I don’t talk to often and chat about games. I will most certainly not be doing another three or so hour episode again.
If I generate enough episodes I may put the series up on iTunes and/or Zune Marketplace, but otherwise I am fine leaving it as a smaller side project that I enjoy.
VIDEO CONTENT
As of this moment I have begun to cut together a video where I talk about stuff at length. I recorded the footage myself, recorded and cut the audio and have put together all other assets. I’m on the final step, which will take at minimum another week of work.
This will not be regular, either, but it is something I thus far enjoy more than Podcasting. I also have a series of topics I have in mind, including a Halo retrospective (hence not reviewing Halo 4, and may even begin recording for the second episode before I’ve even finished the first.
COMIC MAKING
I will return to my new comic concept soon. I will not be updating it as regularly, but I certainly want to get back to working on it. I don’t know if I’ll put it up on the web regularly, however. I’m thinking of alternative options, such as pitching it to larger sites or even touching it up for independent Kindle and Comixology publishing, possibly even independent print-by-demand service. This is all far, far into the future, though. My only concern now is getting a new page out every so often.
As for GameLandEtc., I would like to finish up the current story arc at least. The real issue is that enough time has passed and my life has placed me into such a different spot that it is hard to get back into those characters as I had before. I’ve considered a reboot, partly so I could eliminate some of the more horrible strips or unnecessary punchlines that are cluttering it up. Highly doubtful that will happen, though.
THE UNFORESEEN
Last year there were a lot of things I wanted to do, and then I ended up doing things I didn’t expect. For example, wasn’t looking to make a new comic, but there I went and did it. Always wanted to make a video series of my own, but never thought I’d do the voice work for it. Well, I’m doing that, too.
All in all, I’m hoping for 2013 to be a productive year where I offer a lot of content. Hopefully there will be something worth it for you.
