This episode Joey and Gerry join me in discussing the current state of Japanese games publishers, how well they’ve adapted to the shifting market, and where we see them going. This is another topic that we could likely do multiple episodes on, as there’s a whole lot to discuss and we only really hit on some of the more well known companies. We barely touched on Atlus and Sega, however, and there are plenty of small studios and games developers we likely could have discussed as well.
Ultimately, each of us would love to see the Japanese games industry thrive and continue to produce unique content. However, it is a very real possibility that Japan as we know it will cease to exist. When would that happen? What shape would it take? I’m not sure, but hopefully some of these companies will be established well enough to at least find homes elsewhere afterwards.
You can find more of Gerry’s work over at Geek Bravado, and you can follow Joey on Twitter.
